Abseiling for people with disabilities in Sri Lanka
How you can help...
Total raised with Gift Aid
On Saturday 14 June seven brave (or mad) people will descend the 200ft height of the Avon Gorge near Bristol to raise money for people with disabilities in Sri Lanka.
Legend has it that the Avon Gorge was created when two giant brothers, Goram and Vincent, fell out over a woman.
In a competition to win her favours (by digging a channel to the sea), Goram overdid both the work and the beer, and ending up falling asleep, leaving Vince to forge the winning channel through the Gorge and win the girl.
Isambard Kingdom Brunel crowned the Gorge with his magnificent Suspension Bridge and the rest is history.
Our intrepid seven will be descending the 200ft gorge with nothing but a harness and ropes to stop them falling into the muddy waters below.
