Team KT18 riding Absa Cape Epic 2019 for WSF
Myself, Jaco van Gass and my team mate Stuart Croxford, are joining forces as Team KT18 with the aim of becoming the first team of riders with a disability to complete the Cape Epic challenge, the hardest race of its kind in the world.
We have both overcome life-changing injuries whilst serving on the frontline in Afghanistan, and this challenge will see us achieve a personal and historic goal, and raise money for fellow comrades in need.
I am a keen adventurer and multi-national champion cyclist, having previously represented Team GB in para-cycling, and won 3 gold medals at the Invictus Games.
Stuart is also passionate about adventurous challenge, inspiring others and proving his injury doesn’t define him and what he can and can’t do. He qualified as a ski instructor four months after his amputation and completed his first full Ironman four years after being injured. Always a keen sportsman and cyclist, Stuart has carved out a career as a sports professional within the fitness industry, and runs a fitness and wellbeing company with his wife where they aim to support others to achieve a healthier and happier life post-injury.
Absa Cape Epic 2019
Cape Epic has been described as the ‘Tour de France’ of mountain biking. The annual mountain bike stage race takes place in South Africa, my home country, and covers more than 435 miles over eight days.
Together, myself and Stuart will be raising money for the Wigley Support Fund – the initiative by The Wigley Group, a property, development and construction company based in the Midlands, in association with the official Parachute Regiment charity, Support Our Paras to help injured, serving and veteran soldiers make the transition from military to civilian life.
I have been supported by The Wigley Group in the past and am now the company’s ambassador. The company has raised close to £100,000 for Support Our Paras from its annual golf day over the last six years, and that money has made a huge difference to the lives of many wounded, serving and veteran soldiers.
With your help, we can reach out to the many more in significant need to help give them new skills for a new start.
Huge thanks for your support.
