Marathon for the Bell Tower
The Church of St Mary in Bow is over 700 years old. It was bombed during WW2 and despite the original restoration is need of urgent repair.
Raising money for
St Mary & Holy Trinity, Bow (Bow Church)
St Mary's and Holy Trinity Bow is a Church of English parish in the heart of Bow. It was originally founded in 1311 and has a long history of advancing the cause of social justice. Today the church continues in this vein and is committed to bringing the values of tolerance, inclusiveness and ecumenism to the community.
I am a member of this church and have been continuously surprised by the kindness and good grace of its members both to myself and to the wider community. In many respects the building represents the paradox of the church at large: beautiful yet flawed, old but still relevant, permanent yet in need of constant renewal!
The Church tower was damaged during the war and was repaired in the early 1950's but the effects of erosion have left the 700 year old masonry in a perilous condition. The national lottery have agreed to fund a part of the restoration project, but there remains a significant shortfall which the proceeds of this marathon fund-raising will partly address.
Charity run for Marathon de Paris
The Marathon is 42.2km on April the 9th 2017. I ran it in 2016 in 4 hours and 25 minutes but am hoping to improve my time significantly this year!
