About

I am a committee member for the Wheatley Windmill Preservation Society, and my main tasks are maintenance, organising sailcloth fitting on open days, and milling flour.

Event details

Wheatley Windmill Sail Repair

Wheatley Windmill Is one of the oldest working windmills in the country, built in 1764 and restored to working order between 1976 and 2010.  Unfortunately, whilst milling some flour in July 2016, one of the stocks (the crossed beams that hold the sails) broke, and one sail crashed to the ground.  Luckily, no-one was hurt.
The Preservation Society now needs to raise the money to replace the stocks and the broken sail.  Some of this may be raised by grants, and we are actively pursuing these, but much must be raised by your donations.
The picture shows one unbroken sail, being moved to a storage location.  The other two are still on the mill.

HOORAY!  26 April 2017  Thanks to the generosity of the local community and various grant-giving bodies, the sails are now BACK UP! There are now just a few more important operations to carry out such as re-balancing and final painting. Your continued support is therefore essential to enable us to finish the job and re-open as planned on 13th May.
