I am a 39 year old vicar in Leicester. I am married with two daughters. I have type 1 diabetes. Both my father and brother had VHL and both died in 2013 which was a massive shock for me. I always said I wanted to be different because they had been in my life rather than just regretting I didn't make more of the time I had with them.
Walking Hadrian's Wall around the time of my 40th birthday is an opportunity to raise funds for an organisation that helps families like ours and raises awareness of the condition. People often assumed my brother was drunk and my father was slow because of their symptoms but they were an inspiration to so many in the way they faced the challenges of their illness with such a positive attitude and faith in God.
Hadrian's Wall Walk
It has long been an ambition of mine to walk the length of Hadrian's Wall. The fact that it is my 40th birthday in May 2017 has given me an extra focus. The plan is to walk the wall over nine days. Friends and family will hopefully join me for parts of the walk.
The walk will also coincide with a special time in the Christian year between Ascension Day and Pentecost. The Archbishop of Canterbury has called on Christians to pray 'thy kingdom come' during those days and so this will also be something of a prayer pilgrimage for me.
