Width And Height Of Yorkshire Dales (WAHOYD)
Glynis, Liz, Christo, Ben, Peg, Malcolm have cycled the lengths of Britain (S-N and W-E), Wales and Ireland for various causes in recent years. Between us we have worked for many decades in Africa, including Malawi. Peg works in community health in rural Mozambique; Christo worked for ten years in Malawi; Ben and Glynis live in the Middle East - Ben has just sailed across the Atlantic again; Malcolm and Liz have worked for >30 years in Malawi, Liz having one major focus on cancer in children.
Cycling WAHOYD in part on a rare 4 seater tandem
We propose to cycle WAHOYD. As a gesture of working together with Malawi, we will ride some of this journey on a rare 4-seater tandem named Lucy. Dr George Chagaluka, a graduate of Malawi’s College of Medicine, runs the children’s cancer ward in Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital, Blantyre, Malawi. He and his small team of doctors, nurses and support staff provide diagnosis, treatment, follow-up, palliative care, outreach and training. CCM helps them with the expenses of this locally-based work, while the University of Newcastle, UK, also supports with back-up diagnostic expertise.
