The Manchester Color Run 5k for Thyroid UK
I'm Rachel, leader of the team and I have thyroid disease. Society generally sees this life-long condition as being manageable in day to day life, uncommon and 'just an excuse for being fat and lazy'. None of these are true! The condition, when I was at my worst, gave me over 20 debilitating symptoms, which took control of my life.
Thyroid UK struggle as a charity to raise funds, as it's not a well-known charity, and neither is thyroid disease itself, but the charity is close to my heart.
It is estimated that 200 million people in the world have some form of thyroid disease, including 1 in 20 people in the UK. As many as 60% are undiagnosed, and of those diagnosed, most are not adequately treated!

Rachel: My current health is not great, due to having thyroid disease, and the course will be a real challenge for me. I struggle every day with my mobility, joints and muscles, and simply walking or going upstairs can be a big task for me.
