About

On the 23rd November, I will be attempting to summit the three highest mountains – also known as the ‘Triple Crown’ of Ecuador to raise money for the Multiple Sclerosis Trials Collaboration (MSTC) Charity, and I am asking for your support!

Multiple Sclerosis is a chronic inflammatory disease affecting the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord). This means a person’s own immune system attacks the protective layer (myelin) that covers nerve fibers and causes communication problems between the brain and the rest of the body.  More than 2.5 million individuals worldwide live with the condition and it is also the most common condition of the central nervous system affecting young adults. The exact cause of MS is unknown and it is unclear why the condition develops in some people but not others. A combination of genetics and environmental factors appear to be responsible. There is no cure…yet.

Event details

Berkeley Group MENA Triple Crown Climb, Ecuador

As a member of the Berkeley Middle East and North Africa team based in Dubai, I feel compelled to work with the Berkeley Foundation, to raise awareness and ask for your support to help continue the fantastic achievements of the MSTC. Every pound donated will make a difference in identifying, supporting and developing innovative ideas to find the elusive cure for Multiple Sclerosis.

MSTC aims to use generated income to devise, administer and undertake pharmaceutical clinical trials providing greater access to potential treatments to more MS patients.  MSTC is currently running and supporting a landmark trial investigating the effect of a cholesterol lowering drug, which can be used as a treatment for progressive MS (the most advanced and currently untreatable form of the disease). A phase 3 trial is planned to start in 2019, offering hope to thousands. For more information on the trial, the link is: https://www.journalslibrary.nihr.ac.uk/programmes/hta/1557143/#/

The Berkeley Foundation established in 2011, dedicated to its vision to make a real difference by helping people to improve their lives and participate actively in society and thrive through their own efforts.
