ChoraChori (the Nepali word for children) is conducting a number of projects in Nepal in support of trafficked children, those who are vulnerable to being trafficked and in post-earthquake recovery. One of these is to allow a group of at-risk girls from Tipling to complete their education in Kathmandu. Tipling is a district near to the Tibet border that was devastated by the 2015 earthquakes.
The Tipling Girls Project
Since 2016 ChoraChori has been providing educational support to teenage girls from Tipling. These girls completed their education to the tenth grade in their home community (a huge achievement in remote Nepal) and could only complete 11th and 12th grades by transferring to Kathmandu. We are providing them with accommodation, education costs and a small living allowance. On top of that we are supplementing their academic education with training in crafts, business skills and conversational English. In June 2018 we will be enrolling a further 10 girls from Tipling onto this two year programme. Concurrently, we will move 8 girls on into higher education or employment.
2018 expenditure as bullet points:
- Education of girls in higher secondary education: £10,770
- Education of one girl in Bachelor's of Business Studies: £1,730
- Education of 3 girls as Community Medical Assistants: £6,030
