About

Team Essence are back to take on their third extreme challenge and continue their fantastic efforts to raise money to support the NSPCC's fight for every childhood.Having both conquered the Atlantic Ocean in 2016 as a team of non-rowers who become the first team ever to row the Atlantic from mainland Europe to mainland South America setting two world records in the process and Mathew subsequently taking on the extremes of the Gobi Desert in 2017, the Yukon 1000 will provide further unique risks and challenges as the pair again push their physical and mental limits.

Due to their dedicated support to the NSPCC and hugely successful fundraising efforts, having raised over £160,000 for the charity to date, both Mathew and Oliver have been recognized as Patrons of the charity. Knowing the difference that their efforts has made to thousands of children and young people across the country motivates the pair to take on this latest installment under the Team Essence name.

Event details

Yukon 1000

The 2018 Yukon-1000 is an unsupported 1000 mile wilderness paddling race down the Yukon River from Whitehorse, Yukon, across the US/Canada border and onto the Dalton Highway Bridge north of Fairbanks Alaska, in the Arctic Circle.
The race runs through the most isolated area of North America. Team Essence will spend days without contact with other living persons. The race follows the route of the Klondike gold rush in testament to the fortitude of gold prospectors, centuries before. Unlike most other events, the Yukon 1000 race is unique for its requirement for ultimate self-reliance as it is a remote and dangerous environment.

Mathew and Oliver are aiming to raise £30,000 from this tough expedition and challenge, which could help fund the whole of the NSPCC's Childline service for an entire day.
