Our daughter, Kirsten, has severe non-verbal autism and spent a lot of her early years unhappy, crying and incommunicative. It was incredibly difficult and we had little professional support.

Working with Kirsten's behaviour at home and in the community, Tailor Ed helped her learn how to express her needs using photos (for food or toys for example). Now we go to cafés, restaurants, supermarket, the theatre...

She has blossomed at school as well and is the happiest child we know. She really enjoys her life now.  She is toilet trained, can use public transport, can dress herself with help – the difference for all of us has been quite literally life changing.

Tailor Ed have worked with Kirsten for five years. They’re now at risk of closure at the end of March.

This is devastating to us and many others as there is NO other support here outwith school. When they close we will have NO support and the progress my daughter has made will stop. It's terrifying.

Crowdfunding brings people together and allows them to give what they can in the new age of austerity and still make a difference to families. Please support however you can.

Event details

Emergency campaign

Tailor Ed Foundation has been supporting Edinburgh families raising a child with autism with the day-to-day challenges of family life for the last 8 years. They work 1:1 with children and families, providing therapy and training free of charge. They also host workshops, inclusive family events, do home visits, have parent social nights (the only chance I get to relax and have a beer with people who really ‘get it’.) The list goes on.

They have provided this support to 317 families and were hoping to help even more. Their mission is to see children with autism and their families empowered and included, able to live the lives they want to and to access all the day-to-day experiences that other families take for granted.

After a recent funding set-back, the organisation is working hard to ensure survival. Within the current economic climate, this is increasingly difficult.

Run, jump, skip, skydive, bake (or donate what you can above) – please do whatever you can to help save this vital service in our community. Help #SaveTailorEd.

The charity provides vital support to it’s users and families. There’s already a massive shortfall is suitable places and to even places to go makes no sense.
