About

It has been some time since I regarded myself as a proper cyclist and the waistline is growing. In an effort to combat this inexorable passage towards middle age and obesity I have decided to combine two of my greatest passions. Cycling and helping out Eight Bells.
Having experienced the effects of mental illness I know how valuable the Eight Bells group is to it's members. I have volunteered for some time and I am now privileged to be the Chair of the trustees.
I am riding this epic cycling challenge in order to allow Eight Bells to open an additional day as it's membership continues to grow and the demand for a safe, friendly space here in Newbury and West Berkshire is required more than ever.
It is my intention to spearhead the fundraising that will raise the additional funds required for the extra day.
Please donate as much as you can to help Eight Bells grow.

Event details

Raid Pyrenees cycling challenge.

I will be attempting to cycle from the Atlantic coast across the Pyrenees to the Mediterranean. This will require me to climb many of the mountain passes in the French Pyrenees. In addition to this I will also be cycling from Newbury to the start.  This will make a total of almost 1000 miles.

The Raid Pyrénéen is a timed bicycle challenge over a route that traverses the length of the Pyrenees between Hendaye on the Atlantic coast and Cerbère on the Mediterranean. It can be completed in either direction - West to East, which is the most popular, or East to West. Around 300 people complete this "randonnée" each year, between 1 June and 30 September, either entering the event as an individual and riding independently, taking care of their own arrangements, or joining an organised event run by one of the many tour companies, who look after all the arrangements and support the riders - either staying in hotels, or camping.
