Open door in St albans for the homeless
I was born in Manchester and have 2 younger brothers. I didn’t like school much and left without much of an education. I started work in retail and moved about departments. In my early twenties I helped raise money for the PDSA and my local community centre. I have 2 daughters, 2 boys and now 3 grand children. In the late 90s I moved to Wheathampstead and got married to my wonderful wife Kathleen. Over the years I have wanted to do something for a charity, but have never felt a charity close to my heart. Over Christmas there has been a lot of coverage on the news about the homeless and I was really interested. I went surfing on the Internet and found my local charity for the homeless, Open door. I visited Open door and was so impressed about the home. It sleeps 12 people with en suite, a fully equipped kitchen and showers and washing machines. Professional people are there to support and give advice to help get back to normal life. I would like to try and raise £5000 this year with different ideas to raise money. The money that I raise is going towards new mattresses and anything else to help this great cause.
