Give the gift of light
Tanzania Development Trust is a very small charity and we are all volunteers – therefore every pound donated goes on projects. This is why we can provide these lights so cheaply. We have a long track record of working in Tanzania for almost forty years, and have local representatives in each of the regions we work in. Project officers from the UK often visit the schools we work with, at their own expense, and see at first hand the difference these lights make.
Donating solar lights to Tanzanian school students
Students in the schools we support often walk for up to three hours each way to school. When they get home they have to collect water before they can study. Their villages do not have electricity and solar lights are beyond the
reach of their families who are subsistence farmers living on around £1 a day. Yet students are determined to study as they know that education is their route out of poverty.
So they learn by candle light or kerosene lamp, which damages their lungs, when their families can afford it. Your student will have been specially selected to receive a light by their school because of their particularly poor background and dedication to their studies.
Not only will this gift transform the lives of the student and their family, it will also help the environment. Each solar lantern saves a tonne of carbon every 10 years.
