In April 2012, No.3 Sir Haydn bowed out of service on The Talyllyn Railway as its boiler certificate expired. In 2013, the locomotive will tour the UK showcasing The Talyllyn Railway.By 2014 at the earliest, it is hoped to assess the work required for an overhaul of the locomotive. We envisage that any work that is found to be needed will be costly and extensive. We need your help in ensuring Sir Haydn can return to steam over the next few years.
The Sir Haydn Appeal
Sir Haydn built by Hughes of Loughborough in 1878 for the 2ft 3ins gauge Corris Railway. In 1951 it was purchased by the embryonic Talyllyn Railway Preservation Society for £25, and it has worked on the Talyllyn ever since. It often appears as its alter-ego Sir Handel from the Skarloey Railway.Donations to the Appeal will help ensure the overhaul of Sir Haydn is not restricted by financial constraints, in turn ensuring that Sir Haydn can return to steam as quickly as possible.
