The ChoraChori education programme in Nepal
ChoraChori supports education projects at the poorest government schools in Nepal. These lie within the operational area of ChoraChori’s implementing partner NGO, ChoraChori-Nepal, thereby ensuring excellent outcomes through close implementation, monitoring and evaluation. Through this appeal we are raising funds for capital projects at two secondary schools that lie broadly within Kathmandu valley, one school in east Nepal and for a mushroom cultivation project that generates long term revenue funding towards our education programme.
Schools and mushrooms
In bullet points:
- Shree Buddha Secondary School in Lalitpur District has 350 pupils but no toilets or water supply. They use water from the nearby river which has been contaminated recently by a nearby brick kiln. Cost of boys' and girls' toilets and water tanks/filtration = £4,485
- Shree Ganesh Secondary School, also in Kathmandu valley, teaches computing - without any computers! Set up of a computer lab with 10 computers = £4,030
- Ditto for Indreni Secondary School in Panchthar District, east Nepal. Computer lab = £4,030
- We will grow oyster and shiitake mushrooms, a popular and high value crop in Nepal, to provide revenue support to our schools' programme. The set up costs = £2,680
