Samwise takes on the London Marathon 2015
Hi, I work in IT and have a natural abhorrence to things like running and am more drawn to sitting and slouching. However, I do love my family lots and can be tempted out to do stuff on occasion for a good reason ...
London Marathon 2015
My family has been through a lot. My mum is suffering from PSP, an awful, debilitating condition. In ~2 years, she's been reduced from a social, active, independent person to being unable to stand unaided and is fed through a tube into her stomach. Speech can be unintelligible and heartbreakingly she often has no strength to open her eyes. Reading a book - a life-long pleasure - is now a frustrating chore. Sorry for being graphic but I hate this disease.
My parents moved to better care for Mum's needs and are making the most of their time together. I can't do much to help, apart from regular visits and calls so when I saw the PSP Association had charity marathon places, I wanted to help raise funds and awareness.
Oct. update: Mum has passed away. I miss her already but I'm so grateful she is finally at peace. I'll be running next year in her memory, with my family at the finish line.
Apr. update: COMPLETED! Runner no: 45336, Place overall: 28311, Finish: 04:58:05
