Thank you for stopping by! I am Ruth Wanjiku and I'm a contestant for the proud position of Face of Kenya UK, which will give me the opportunity to continue my charitable work in promoting the wellbeing of disabled children. I have been involved with AbleChildAfrica for over two years, and I remain committed to raising the profile of this charity because of their groundbreaking work in promoting equality and human rights; in addition to ensuring that disabled children are acknowledged as productive members of society.

The Project “Sports for Inclusion: Changing the Game for Disabled Children in Kenya"
AbleChildAfrica UK is a charity close to my heart as it promotes inclusivity and empowerment for children on the margins of society who all too often feel alienated from their peer group due to stigmatisation within their wider communities. AbleChildAfrica supports disabled children in Kenya in conjunction with Action Network for the Disabled (ANDY), they are running an exciting life changing sports projects for disabled children across Nairobi and Kiambu counties. Many disabled children live in isolation due to exclusion from mainstream schools unable to cope with their needs and lack of access to facilities. As with many marginalised groups this renders them invisible and helps formulate negative stereotypes and fear of the unknown. This amazing sports initiative allows dis/able bodied children to play together thus eradicating social stigmas and supporting families with education and health matters resulting in the whole family benefiting and improving their life chances.
