Cycling the Cape for the Kids
Our business is childcare with an emphasis on sport and activities so this challenge seemed very fitting, https://www.ultimateactivity.co.uk/

Back in 2006 Ben & I set up links with a charity to run residential activity camps for underprivileged children in Cape Town, South Africa. As a family we went out to witness the first camp which took place in an educational centre in Simon’s Town – I will be cycling past this on the Tour! https://www.campafrica.org/ultimate-camp-africa-residential
Each camp that we run can cater for approx 60 children, the qualified staff will provide them with a fun and safe environment where children will learn life skills and gain hope for a brighter future. This is often the first time that the children get to sleep in their own bed, have three meals a day, take a hot shower and drink fresh water from a tap. Some of these kids have had very traumatic lives and seen events that would shock most adults, they need to see that there is hope and believe that they can make a difference.
I have personally funded the event entrance fee as well as my flight so all of my fundraising will be going to these amazing children.
The Cape Town Cycle Tour 2018
This is the world's largest timed cycling event
https://www.capetowncycletour.com/lifecycle-week/ctct/ The training for this event is proving quite difficult during our snowy and cold weather but at least I have a warm home, running water and plenty of food to go home to.
I am in Cape Town for 1 week after the event so plan to visit projects and attend training events in preparation for our next residential camp which is due to take place 3-7 April. We have become great family friends with Dee Moscoff (and her famiy) who heads up Connect Network and will be putting me up for the week. https://www.connectnetwork.org.za/ Our camps fall under their umbrella statement of 'protecting women and children at risk'.
