Ironman 70.3 for Action Through Enterprise!
I'll be taking on the Ironman 70.3 in Edinburgh to support the work of Action Through Enterprise in their 2800 Mile Challenge! #justkeeppedalling
Raising money for
Action Through Enterprise
As my Mum and good friend Larney once said to a training-wheel-dependent, tantrum-throwing, young Ruth, "Goddam it Ruth, just keep pedalling!"
After completing 2/3 of the Busselton Ironman 70.3 (swim and run legs) in Team Dad and Daughter last year, I have decided to take on the challenge and complete the full event in Edinburgh this July.
In doing so, I am raising funds for Action Through Enterprise (ATE). I was introduced to this charity by my UK flatmate Sarah.
ATE is a young, dynamic sustainable development charity working in the Lawra district of Upper West Ghana. This is a region with a poverty incidence of 100% and an adult literacy rate of just 19%, which is four times lower than the national average. ATE works directly with communities in Upper West Ghana, reducing poverty through education, enterprise and social change.
Through their school feeding programme ATE encourages over 930 school children into school each school day, helping them to complete their education and prepare themselves for the future. ATE provides support to small businesses, helping individuals to provide for their family while boosting the local economy.
Ironman 70.3 Edinburgh
As part of ATE's 2800 Mile Challenge, I'll be doing the Ironman 70.s in Edinburgh this July.
There are 2800 miles between ATE's UK office and where they deliver their development programmes in Ghana. Over the course of 2017 ATE are encouraging their supporters to collectively cover those 2800 miles through different fundraising challenges.
I'll be contributing 1.2 mile (1.9 km) from my sea swim on the Fourth of Firth, a 56 mile (90.1km) bike ride through the countryside of East Lothian, Midlothian, through the outskirts of the city centre of Edinburgh and Dalkeith country park, and finally a 13.1 mile (21.2km) run within Holyrood Park and Arthur's Seat. A whopping 70.3 miles (113.2km) in total!
