About

Rickie, Tony, Charlotte, Sarah & Steve have got together and signed up to complete a 10k run in order to try and raise support for The Sick Children's Trust who helped Rickie & Carly Hicks when they were in a desperate state after their 6 month old daughter Lily was fighting for her life in Great Ormond Street Hospital Intensive Care after contracting Bacterial Meningitis and was given only 20% chance of survival. No matter how strong you think you are or what you have had to deal with in life nobody can prepare you to hear a specialist doctor tell you that your baby girl might die right here on this table. Lily had pipes and tubes all over her body and a rescue team doing everything they could to keep her alive and fight the horrible infectious meningococcal septicaemia. The world stood still and we became delusional. How could this be happening after being sent home from hospital diagnosed with Chicken Pox! Lily was successfully transferred to Great Ormond Street where she spent 5 days heavily sedated in Intensive care with around the clock treatment.

Event details

Great Newham Run

The Sick Children's Trust was our little haven, they gave us a beautiful furnished room with a nice clean bathroom and kitchen where we would take it in turns to pop back when we needed to get some rest away from the intense noise from the life support machines. There was something about having Tina and that house that kept us on the verge of staying normal, maybe it was just having a very basic conversation with Tina or being in a normal household environment away from all the trauma that you see in Intensive care. Whatever it was it helped keep us sane in our desperate state! We are very lucky to have such wonderful people like The Sick Children's Trust who are willing to help people in their moment of need. We are putting ourselves through the mill by training hard to run 10km for this fantastic cause. This might not be hard for everyone but for us this is a very hard challenge! Would like to ask for you to dig deep and donate anything you can to make this all worth while!
