Event details

National 3 peaks challenge

We did it it! Despite Roly's bad ankle, terrible weather and badly timed road closures. Full report at: https://rolystravels.wordpress.com/2017/10/31/1-lad-1-dad-1-mate-3-peaks-24-hours/

The national 3 peaks challenge involves climbing Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon in 24 hours. The challenge for James and Roly is the estimated 13 hours of hill climbing with little sleep. The challenge for intrepid driver Rich is to get us promptly but safely between mountains.

We are raising money for the Calder Valley Search and Rescue Team (CVSRT), the voluntary service which carries out the rescue, treatment and evacuation of casualties across the wilder parts of our region. Both Roly and Rich are members of CVSRT. It costs £35,000 per year to keep the team operational.

Our plan is to take on this quest in October - not the ideal time of year for weather or daylight hours, but it will increase the challenge. The 24 hour target starts as we leave the car park in Glen Nevis and ends when we return from Snowdon to the car. Mid-quest eating, sleeping and massage therapy will all need to be done en route on the motorway.
