Robert & Simon Dennis both rowed at Imperial College in the 1990's. Robert settled for the one Henley medal but Simon pushed on for three and then in to the Great Britain Team. Simon rowed at three in the Gold medal winning eight at the Sydney Olympics. Robert is now a Consultant Surgeon and Simon a teacher. They are rejoining forces to row a double in the Jersey to Carteret costal rowing race ().
There are estimated to be 70,000 operating theatres worldwide without accessto monitoring devices for reducing the risk of oxygen starvation during surgery. These pulse oximeters need to be robust and have long battery life (electricity supply being a variable comoditiy!). Each oximeter costs £160. £1440 would equate to 9 Lifeboxes for the British 8 at Rio!
