Ride for Nicola
I am riding a 100-mile cycle event to raise money to support Leukaemia patients and to say thanks for saving my wife's life
Donations accepted until 04-07-2017
In June 2015 my wife Nicola was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia. To say it changed our life is an understatement. Nicola has been treated on the Palatine Haematology Ward and the Haematology and Transplant Day Unit at The Christie hospital ever since. It's our second home and the medical team at The Christie have saved my wife's life on multiple occasions.
After diagnosis, the next six months were difficult. Nicola was having chemotherapy to get her into remission and then to the point where she could receive a stem cell transplant. This we were told was the only lifesaving option. At times getting to the transplant seemed to be out of reach, an impossibility, and despite some very dark days we did manage to get there by the start of 2016.
In March 2016 Nicola was given that second chance at life by a young man from Germany who donated his stem cells so that Nicola could get a new immune system. Without his selfless act and without the brilliance of the medical team, my wife wouldn't be here today.
By doing this ride I'm trying to give a little back to all those countless people that have worked together to ensure that my wife and I have a life together today.
Ride for Nicola
In June I'll be riding the 100 mile Tour De Manc cycling sportive, a very hard (Epic) 100-mile route (“Full Manc”). I'll be riding the event with my good friend Tom and for the past several months we have been training every week to prepare for the event. Within the 100 miles, there are over 7000ft of climbing so it'll be a tough day on the legs, but I'm sure we will make it through.
About Tour De Manc
Tour de Manc is a not for profit brand, which aims to raise significant funds for registered charities, whilst supporting cycling inclusivity (enabling para-cyclists, women cyclists, kids etc) and encouraging people to cycle for health benefits.
