Fundraising for Khora Community Centre
I'm joining a group (http://www.thighsofsteel.com) cycling in stages from London to Athens. I'm doing the Stuttgart to Ljubljana stage riding over the alps. It's going to be 550 miles of hilly 'fun'.
We are raising money for Khora, a refugee community centre in Athens (http://www.khora-athens.org). They are an amazing self organised cooperative responding directly to the humanitarian crisis that is affecting people forced from their homes by war, poverty and climate change. They provide direct support in loads of different ways including access to legal services, dentistry, safe social spaces, a canteen serving 600 people a day alongside education and creative opportunities. Even skateboarding for young people :)
For the last two years TOS raised enough to pay for the rent and running costs of their 7 storey building. We hope to do the same this year! Please do donate to support me cycling a long way and to keep Khora doing their amazing work!
London to Athens 2018
A group of not-so-serious cyclists have set themselves the serious challenge of cycling between London and Athens. The ride is a relay-style challenge, with each participant taking on a week or two of the overall trip.
We are fundraising for Khora; a grassroots, proactive association running a community centre in Athens. Their centre provides basic and human needs for people without freedom of movement. This includes free nutritious food, clothing, education, access to information and a safe space to build relationships and relax.
Equally important to what they offer, is how they offer it. Khora is run by volunteers from all over the world. Its team includes members of the local Greek community, the refugee community and other international volunteers too. It prioritises dignity and respect in every service it provides.
The £60,000 we are aiming to raise will pay for the rent for their community centre for an entire year. The running costs of a project are typically the hardest to find funding for, so it of particular importance to be able to provide this for Khora, to secure a stable future for the project. All fund-raised money goes to Khora, and none on the ride.
