About

The Rohingya crisis is one of the most tragic humanitarian crises of our time. The people have been systematically oppressed and persecuted in a most horrific manner- this can only be described as a modern-day genocide.

How we can make a difference?
We are calling on our local community to be part of a unique opportunity to assist in raising funds for an Emergency Refugee Village project located on the outskirts of the Cox’s Bazar refugee camp. This entails the construction of 100 shelters, which will accommodate 800 - 1000 refugees. We will prioritise protection and security for the most vulnerable victims of this crisis - namely orphans, women and children.

  • The cost of a 2 bedroom shelter & amenities- £550
  • the cost of a 3 bedroom shelter & amenities- £650
The following will also be part of the village which will be covered via other funds working with partners:
-
Dedicated Medical treatment centre
- Local primary school
- Washing facilities
- Community centre
- Children's playground
- Village mosque.

Event details

Rohingya Refugee Village Project

This project is being delivered in association with Syria Relief, an internationally recognised UK Registered charity. They have a wealth of knowledge and expertise learned from their refugee work in Syria, which they are now using to implement specific aid projects within the Rohingya refugee camps.

The latest bout of violence in the Rakhine State began on 25 August 2017. It has driven an estimated 655,000 Rohingya across the border into Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh. At least 58% of these are children and 60% women, including a high number of pregnant (3%) and lactating women (7%).

The speed and scale of the influx has resulted in a critical humanitarian emergency. The people have come with very few possessions and have used most of their savings on transportation and constructing basic shelter which is not fit for purpose, often out of no more than bamboo and thin plastic sheets.

The area is under resourced and overcrowded as basic services that were available prior to the influx are under severe strain due to the massive increase in people.
