Refugee Info Bus
Refugee Info Bus
The Refugee Info Bus is a small grassroots charity that started in the Calais "Jungle" refugee camp. We provide free WIFI to refugees, Legal and Human Rights education and facilitate refugee citizen journalism.
We now operate in Greece as well as France and we are planning possible projects in Itay, Serbia, and the UK.
The Issue of mass migration, people forced to move from war and persecution is the issue of our age. The Refugee Info Bus empowers refugees with information through internet access as well as knowledge and understanding of their legal rights. We endeavor to do so, in solidarity, as equals with those we work with.
Info Bus Team
The Info Bus was started by Rowan Farrell and Sarah Story and were soon joined by a tight-knit volunteer team as well as the guiding influence of a board of trustees. But most importantly, we work FOR Refugees. The friends we have met in camps across Europe direct and advise us on how best to help their communities.
Why an Info Bus?
Information is the goal, the bus is the tool. The nature of mass migration in Europe means we must be mobile and quickly adaptable to any situation.
Refugee Info Bus - WIFI and Freedom Information
Our mobile wifi for refugees will work anywhere. Access to the internet is one of the most powerful tools for a displaced person. It is a free Whatsapp call home, it is google translate, downloadable maps, legal rights information. When you have no state, no home and an unknown future, it is a way to make your voice heard.
Communicating to Communities
Refugees face an uphill legal battle in Europe to establish their human rights that we are all entitled to. This process must be understood and pushed for by the refugees themselves. We endeavor to teach these legal rights and complex processes so that displaced persons can take control of their own future.
Information Gathering and Citizen Journalism
For us all to best understand this situation, we need a thought out and coordinated effort to record and report what is going on. The best people to do this are refugees themselves. We will help fascinate this effort with training and equipment.
