Running for Youth Music
I am running a half marathon for Youth Music, an amazing charity that enables young people in challenging circumstances to have access to music...

I've never been able to run more than 2 mins. Not even at school. When told to do 1500m, I remember sighing and thinking 'I can't even go round ONCE without a break.' About 6 months ago I started some cardio I love. I've tried running again this September and it seems I can do 15 minutes!
So, a half marathon is 'punchy', yes, but I should raise money for Youth Music, an amazing charity that can only fund a small proportion of the applications it would like to. I should raise some money towards changing the musical landscape in England and Wales so that more people can develop their musicianship, skills, enjoy their creativity, and grow in confidence doing things they love. To enable young people in difficult situations to have access to that. Those with disabilities. Those struggling with drugs & alcohol or their mental wellbeing. Those in trouble with the law.
And, for me, I don't want to live thinking there are things that are 'just not for me' because of hating school cross country in 1995. I wouldn't suffer of a young person saying that, so I refuse to believe it for myself.

Rachel's BIG Half Marathon
The Vitality Big Half is the run I'll be doing, a half marathon in the great city of London that I love! Starting at Tower Bridge and finishing in Greenwich.
This is a big deal for me. You are sponsoring me to go from 2km to 21km in the next 6 months. Like, actually be able to do it. I don't know if I can, but I'm going to believe I can.
Do follow my progress over on Instagram:
I did it! I found 9 miles to the end really tricky and walked three times, each for a couple of mins. I have lots of action shots and I am smiling the whole time -- so quite proud of that.
The nicest thing was being surrounded by all these different people sharing in a common activity for millions of charities which all sound amazing -- working to change the world. It made me proud to be a single part of that massive group. So many people work so hard for others and I want to be one of them. Truly inspiring.
