Conor and Harvey Race the Train
Conor Collins and Harvey Blackhurst
Conor will be raising money for the Stroke Association after his much loved grandad and uncle both suffered strokes. The Stroke Association funds research to provide effective treatment for the 150,000 people in the UK who have a stroke each year.
Harvey is supporting Assist RR
"I recently visited Sri Lanka where my great-grandmother grew up and where my great-great-grandfather worked in education. It is an amazing country and yet there is so much still to do to repair the damage left by the war 28 years ago. Assist RR was introduced to us by the Junior School Headmaster and his wife, and it seems fitting that given my heritage and the great work carried out by them and the school that I choose to support this charity"
We would like to support mountain rescue in memory of a very special teacher who taught at Solihull School for many years. He played a key role in outdoor education, organising trips to the school cottage in Snowdonia and the Terriers programme. He also led expeditions around the world and in recognition of all he gave to the school we would like to support a charity that meant a lot to him and reflects his love of outdoor life.
Race the Train Dolgoch Challenge
We will be taking part in the 'Race the Train' event in Tywyn, Mid Wales. A popular event attracting runners from around the world, we will literally be racing a train (the clue is in the title!) on the Talyllyn Railway route to Abergynolwyn and back. The Dolgoch challenge is a 9km course that encompasses public roads, narrow lanes and rough grazing pasture , ascending and descending quite steep terrain.
All money raised will be split equally between the charities that are close not just to our hearts, but to those of the school community. Every little helps, so thank you for your support.
