Cameron was only sixteen when he died in a tragic accident.  In his memory and in celebration of his passion for wildlife in general and birds in particular, his family established the Cameron Bespolka Trust.  The Trust aims to raise awareness of nature among young people, providing opportunity and encouragement to engage with wildlife and its conservation for the benefit of present and future generations.

As well as raising awareness of the Trust and funds for it, the particular focus of our fundraising effort is “Cameron's Cottage” – a currently derelict 17th century cottage within the RSPB Reserve at Coombes Valley, Staffordshire, in the heart of the UK.  The Trust plans to restore it as an accessible and safe place for teenagers and children to experience nature (especially birds), that feels remote from the nearby towns and cities.  The aspiration is to offer children from all over the UK the chance to experience what Cameron’s family calls the “total immersion in nature which had such a profound and life-enhancing effect on Cameron”.

Event details

Cycling the Pyrenees: Coast to Coast for Cameron

We are a motley crew of middle-aged and, until now, mostly non-cyclists.  In September 2017 we are taking on one of Europe’s most iconic cycle routes: coast-to-coast from the Atlantic to the Med, along the Pyrenees.  In less than a week, we have to cover a daily average of 80 miles with a total of over 13.5km of vertical ascent - that's 1.5 times the height of Everest!  The route takes in some of the most fearsome climbs of the Tour de France, including the world-famous, hors categorie Col de Tourmalet.  To say that this is out of our comfort zone is an understatement – and some of us have been training since last September!

Any donation that you feel able to make will be hugely appreciated – by the Trust and Cameron’s family, and also as encouragement for those of us training for this challenge. Thank you!

The Team: Will Beardmore-Gray, Rupert Boissier, James Calder, Richard Cheetham, James Coulson, Barney Dalton, Ed Doyle, Chris Edwards, Simon Harries, Kate & Jason Harvey, Sarah Neish, George & James Shannon, Geoff Smailes, Nick Smith, Franca & James Turner
