There are 200 children living in the Grande-Synthe camp in Dunkirk, France. Here, there are no dedicated spaces for children to play, relax and make new friends which increases the risk of accentuated boredom, anxiety, hostility and anger and can lead to severe behavioral and developmental problems. We want to bring these children hope. We want to build a safe space to play, an area to call their own where they can express themselves in a safe and healthy manner. We want to build a playground. We are Tribe LAB an international grassroots architecture design group who’s aim on this project is to bring sustainable design solutions to communities suffering displacement due to war or disaster.
Help us build a playground for refugee children
We've been working alongside Help Refugees, Utopia 56, Catalytic Action, The Maktab School, design volunteers and other experts so that we can improve the experience for these children. We involved the children and their parents in the design process though series of participatory activities. The playground is designed so it can be easily taken down and moved to a new location. All materials are locally sourced and can be reused.
