Sahara Desert Challenge in aid of 40tude
After last year's epic climb to the summit ridge of Mount Toubkal, this winter's challenge is to trek 100km through the Sahara desert, with not a hotel or shower in sight! This could be pretty uncomfortable & smelly, though I am more worried about the lack of WiFi/4G and the risk of meeting the odd snake or scorpion...
40tude's 2019 Sahara Desert Challenge
In January 2019 two teams of intrepid supporters will be undertaking 40tude's second Adventure Challenge: trekking a total of 100km across the Sahara Desert in just five days, and in so doing raising vital awareness and funds to help cure colon cancer.
During these back-to-back expeditions our teams will experience the extremes of the Sahara's day and night temperatures and sleep out under canvas - not to mention coping with mountains of sand each day! Trek 1 will be from 14-20 Jan, while Trek 2 takes place from 21-27 Jan 2019.
Colon cancer is the UK's second most common cancer but it is one of the easiest to treat if it is detected early, through screening. We recommend that you are screened regularly for colon cancer from your mid-40s.
Since it was founded in 2011, 40tude has raised more than £1 million to support bespoke, pioneering research into the early diagnosis and treatment of colon cancer. We're working to raise awareness also, as heightened awareness of colon cancer is essential, particularly for anyone over 45. Any abdominal symptoms, change in bowel habit or blood in your stool should be discussed immediately with your doctor whatever your age.
