Neuter and vaccination project in Tangalle.
Phil Evans is the founder of Mountain Biking Worldwide and co founder of Helping Paws.
Troubled by the plight of the street animals he encountered during his times abroad, particularly in Nepal and Sri Lanka, Phil decided to try and alleviate some of the suffering he saw through the Helping Paws charity.
Helping Paws has forged relations with local charities in Sri Lanka and Nepal and it is through one of these, Animal SOS Sri Lanka that, Helping Paws are planning to help the animals in Tangalle live out a much healthier and happier life.
Sri Lanka North to South on a budget!!
Thanks to your generous donations we have reached our first target of £1000. This has set the bar very high, as the more we raised in part 1, the harder the challenge became.
So, now on May 19th, I have just £150 to travel 400km from Colombo to Jaffna, buy a traditional single speed steel bike and then cycle it 800km south to Tangalle.
I'm extremely happy to say, that I won't be alone in my misery,as I will be joined by my long time friend, Neil Cottam, who will suffer along side me for the duration of the challenge.
Unfortunately my training for this challenge, so far, has been non existent (apart from walking 10km and 800 steps twice a day to feed some puppies in Nepal) so the suffer factor is going to be fairly high, and with only 9 days until we have to be in Tangalle and £150 in my pocket, we aren't going to be able to hang around.
As mentioned earlier we have already raised around £1000 for this project which will enable us to neuter and vaccinate around 50 dogs and cats but it would be brilliant if we could double this amount so we can make this a sustainable and prolonged campaign to ensure the future is a bright one for the community animals of Tangalle.
