Following a visit to the North and East of Sri Lanka in the summer of 2016, we were struck by two things in particular – how desperately poor innocent victims of the civil war still are, and how dependent they are on the life changing work of charities like Assist RR and IMHO.

Between them, these charities continue to provide extraordinary support in education, healthcare and livelihood projects in war torn areas.
Their latest joint venture - to provide funds to buy fishing boats, engines and nets - will transform the lives of very many families, and we'd like to help them raise as much money as possible to do so.

A boat, engine and fishing nets costs approximately £2800 (approx $3800). For every £1400 (50%) raised by Assist RR and IMHO, the Sri Lankan Ministry of Resettlement will match this with a soft loan for the remaining 50%.
As each boat will be shared by two families, every £700 provided for Assist RR and IMHO will make a huge difference.

  • Every £700 ($950) raised - provides a family with an indefinite and decent income
  • Every £1400 ($1900) raised - provides a boat, engine and nets for two families to share

Event details

55KM South Coast Challenge - Eastborne to Hove

Our goal is to raise enough funds to help 20+ families, with a sponsored 55 KM walk from Eastbourne to Hove - in one day - on August 25th 2018. Yikes!
No donation is too big or too small. We hope to raise funds from friends, family and Tamil diaspora all over the world. Assist RR and IMHO have previously had very generous support from Tamil diasporas in the UK, USA, Canada, Malaysia, Singapore, Australia, Europe and elsewhere and we hope that they will again support this life-changing livelihood appeal.

Name a boat!
If any individual donor, group of donors, family, organisation, company or community would like to fund a boat in full, (£1400 or $1900) you may choose a name and/or logo for the boat and we will send you photographs of the named boat being handed over to families whose lives you will transform.

With your support we are very happy to endure short term pain... for long term gain!

Thank you very much,

Mark & Donna :-)

Donations in the UK (Gift Aid)  & USA ( via the IMHO/needs page) are tax deductible.
