Thighs of Steel - Pels Heywood
Khora is a community centre in Athens. Khora supports refugees who are stuck in Greece, hoping to get on with their lives. The team provide access to warm clothing, nutritious food, education and dental care. There is also information and legal support for seeking asylum and housing. Having fled their homes, which are likely completely destroyed now, they find themselves stuck between closed borders. Above all, the Khora Centre provides a safe place for refugees to be part of a community once more.
Thighs of Steel is a bike ride from London to Athens. This June, I will join a small group of people to cycle one chunk of that big ride - from Trieste in northern Italy, to Dubrovnik in Croatia. That's around 700km and over 9000m ascent (higher than Mount Everest) - all in 6 days and camping each night.
This is a massive challenge for me - I've never done anything like it. I'm cycling whenever I can, building up stamina with the encouragement and enthusiasm from my friends and family.
If you feel able to, please donate to Khora. It won't fund the bike ride or anyone's wages. Your donation goes direct to Khora. Thank you.
Thighs of Steel 2017
We are fundraising for Help Refugees, who fund small grassroots refugee organisations. The specific group we are fundraising for is Khora, a co-operative made up of volunteers from all over the world, including the local Greek community, the refugee community and other international volunteers. Their community centre in Athens provides not only basic needs such as free nutritious food, warm clothing and access to dental care, but also social needs such as education, child care, access to information and a safe space to build relationships and relax.
