About

Hello there!

My name is Paul Breaks and I am an Accy lad who has lived (other than for  one or two interesting periods), most of my life here. Accrington has been good to me and now it’s time to give a bit back by raising money for a fantastic organisation called YNOT Aspire.

They help and support kids and teenagers in all the ways most of us take for granted who through no fault of their own have been dealt a bum deal. Helping with physical and mental issues, encouraging and providing education, developing social skills as well  as generating self esteem which is so key to  building confidence and the ability to succeed and contribute to society which because of YNOT these kids do. Brilliant!
So
What better way to do it than by raising a few bob by walking /running through the Sahara desert.

Event details

Marathon des Sables - April 7th 2019

The Marathon des Sables (Marathon in the sands)was started by a frenchman, Patrick Bauer, back in 1986 and has taken place every year since. Only a few ran it back then but last year 1300 from countries all over the world competed. While the course and distance varies its fundamentally 156 miles through the Sahara over 6 racing days.

While the first 3 days are 22 to 24 miles the forth is a bit tougher - 56miles! Then you get a day off if you are still not out there completing day 4!(Most ,including me, will be)
Day 6 is a full marathon with the 7th a charity run of a few kilometres.

To make it more interesting(!!) you have to carry everything you need (apart from water which is provided but you have to carry it) for the full 7 days i.e. kit and food.
And it can get a bit warm apparently – 50 degrees c

So as the song goes, “Mad dogs and Englishmen go out...…"
(I'm funding the trip myself so every penny donated will go to YNOT Aspire)
Thankyou in advance !
