Class Of Your Own was established to provide exciting resources to help young people and their teachers discover the amazing careers available to them in the built environment.
Over the years, we've made some fantastic friends in industry, in universities and in schools, and all of them share our passion to provide a great future for all our children.
We heard that the Ugandan village community of Parabongo needed a new school, and in the Spring of 2015, we launched our competition to challenge UK secondary school children to design the Vision Hope School - a school that would provide 1000 Ugandan children, age 3-18, with a great place to learn.
Judging took place at the offices of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors in February 2016, and the winning team was chosen....
#BuildParabongo - let's do this!
The team has worked with surveyors, architects and engineers at Topcon, Liverpool John Mooores University, Arup, Digital Green and BAM to develop a working model of their school, and also provide sanitation and accommodation blocks.
We want to help them kickstart their campaign and raise £150,000, not only to provide materials and expertise, but also to ensure that local people are trained in construction and building maintenance skills.
Uganda is a country with high levels of poverty, low levels of literacy and where very few have the skills or experience to earn their own living, education is paramount.
In the spirit of Christmas and BIM, we hope that British industry, academia and schools will collaborate with the King Ecgbert girls to make this extraordinary project happen.
Thank you to CIBSE Yorkshire region for providing the platform to launch this campaign - very appropriate given that King Ecgbert's is a great Yorkshire school.
