Wearing shorts to school until March the 31st 2018
The Refugee Community Kitchen or RCK has been feeding displaced people in Calais since November 2015, as well as homeless people in Camden and Hackney in London. It cooks around 2000 meals a day in Calais alone and also up to 4 times a week in London for the homeless. A lot of people think that there are no more people to feed in Calais because the “Jungle” isn’t there anymore but there a a lot of people living in very rough conditions who are still in and around Calais. They do not have access to the most basic things in life which are food and shelter. They live outside and are always being moved away by the police. It is very cold and humid in the winter in Calais. This is why I think that going to school in shorts is not very hard compared to what refugees and homeless people have to put up with.I have been to the warehouse where RCK operates from 3 times before and I have seen all the hard work that they do. People give up their time and come to volunteer for a few days and sometimes a few months. I would like to think that if I had to run away from my country there would be people like the people who volunteer at RCK to give me some hot tasty food!
