In 2017, we, Frank & Alison (OTS Directors) decided unanimously to support our local Community by working with 'Heads Up' which is a charity doing an amazing work providing care, support and guidance to individuals affected by Mental Health issues and other difficulties including Dementia.

This charity is close to our hearts, as Alison's dad had Alzheimers and it was incredibly sad to see him suffer and deteriorate with this illness. He had been a proud man who loved to see us and would welcome us with a beaming smile and a big hug. Sadly, overtime as the disease progressed he became distant and his body like a shell.

In March, we found out about a Charity Challenge to trek  - 'The Great Wall of China' an iconic monument in all its magnificent glory that snakes its way across seemingly endless miles of mountain valleys with challenging twists, turns, ups and downs! We thought what a fantastic way to raise money for 'Heads Up' and push ourselves to our limits!!

OTS Training is going to sponsor the trek and our aim is to raise £10,000 for Heads Up with 100% of all money donated going to them

Thank you so much for your support

Trekking The Great Wall of China

Great Wall of China Discovery Trek
Beginning 4 hours north of Beijing, our challenge takes us on a series of vigorous upward climbs of over 10,000 relentless steps over the course of a week. As the days progress we follow the winding path along the mountains that spread either side of the Gubeikou Gateway. Exhaustion will quickly vanish as we are rewarded with sweeping views over the vast mountain ranges.

This will be a challenge and will push us to our limits as we will be:

  • trekking for around 4-7 hours per day, covering approximately 50kms over 5 days.
  • Continually hiking up and down thousands of stairs.
  • Battling the heat on exposed sections of the wall. Temperatures can reach the mid 20s.
  • Trekking on un-renovated sections of the wall, with crumbling steps, shrubbery and rocks underfoot, and steep stair climbs.
  • Taking on sections at height with drops at either side.
  • Staying in basic lodges each night.
Any donation you feel able to give will be hugely appreciated and thank you.
