About

EXERCISE IS DANGEROUS – such have I been preaching for many a long year. All those broken bones and muscle strains are not for me. There does, however, have to be an exception to every rule. This year I am intending to take part in the Bluebell Railway’s annual “Track-Trek”, an 11-mile sponsored walk along the entire length of the railway line. Not exactly a marathon? Sure, but it is a long walk over rough ballast and slippery sleepers, so not exactly a walk in the park. In previous years it has also been accompanied by copious amounts of rain, which makes it all the harder. It is also about 10 miles more than I usually walk in a typical day! Some of the track on the railway has been there since British Rail days (50+ years ago), and really needs to be replaced. Without track there is no railway. If you are able to help me to raise money for this charity which you know is close to my heart I would be very grateful. Will I make the entire 11 miles? Not sure, but you can be sure I will give it my best shot.

Bluebell Railway Track Trek 2017

Many thanks to everyone who took part in the Bluebell Railway's 5th sponsored "Track Trek", an 11 mile walk between East Grinstead and Sheffield Park stations on Saturday 18 November 2017.
The walk took place during the daytime, raising money for the Tr(ack) Action Appeal, that was formally launched in October.  This is an appeal set up to raise £250,000 for the renewal of track along parts of the Railway. The target for the Track Trek is to raise £15,000 which will buy a new 60 foot track panel.
A complimentary bus service operated to take trekkers from Sheffield Park to East Grinstead in the morning and then back to their original starting point at the end of the Track Trek.

Participants registered in advance for the Trek.  Details of this are available at www.bluebell-railway.me.uk/fund/TrackTrek2017.pdf
