Thighs of Steel 2017 - Dubrovnik to Corfu Chapter
I will be cycling with a small group of intrepid cyclists (http://www.thighsofsteel.com), a very long way, to raise money for refugees in Greece.
The important bit:
We will be donating money to Khora (http://www.khora-athens.org/), a grass-roots organisation, which is part of the help refugees project (http://www.helprefugees.org.uk/)
Our aim is to raise £100,000 to cover the running costs of a refugee help and community centre in Athens for an entire year. Donations will provide crucial support for some of the 57,000 refugees who currently do not have asylum, nor state support whilst they wait for a decision upon it.
The cycling bit:
In June, we will leave Dubrovnik to traverse the Albanian mountains and reach Corfu after 720km in 6 days. It will be beautiful, but for someone who has not sat on a bike in earnest for over a decade, it is going to be incredibly tough, very, very hot, and there will be saddle sores. Training will involve early mornings (my favourite), overeating and being lapped in Regent’s Park by Middle Aged men in Lycra (MAMiLs).
Any donations will be very gratefully received for this extremely important cause.
Thighs of Steel 2017
We are fundraising for Help Refugees, who fund small grassroots refugee organisations. The specific group we are fundraising for is Khora, a co-operative made up of volunteers from all over the world, including the local Greek community, the refugee community and other international volunteers. Their community centre in Athens provides not only basic needs such as free nutritious food, warm clothing and access to dental care, but also social needs such as education, child care, access to information and a safe space to build relationships and relax.
