HELP YOUNG PEOPLE!
My challenge is to complete the Ride London '100 miler' and, in doing so, raise much needed funds for the Ulysses Trust's 25th Anniversary Appeal.
Raising money for
The Ulysses Trust
WHO AM I AND WHAT DOES THE CHARITY DO? I have been a keen climber and mountaineer for most of my life. Indeed, I have been both a beneficiary of adventurous activities and have run a number of expeditions - from walking in the Scottish Highlands to overseeing a successful Joint Services' Expedition to the Himalaya. The Ulysses Trust supports expeditions and adventurous activities for the UK Volunteer Reserve and Cadet Forces. By providing this support, benefit is secured for the individuals concerned, their units and society at large. Particular focus is given to those young people from disadvantaged backgrounds. The Patron is HRH The Prince of Wales. I have been associated with the Trust for a number of years and am the Chairman of Trustees. The Charity is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year and all the money raised from my challenge will be donated to the 25th Anniversary Appeal. Since the Charity began it has raised some £2.7M and has supported nearly 33000 individuals participating in some 2600 expeditions.

WHAT AM I GOING TO DO? I am taking part in the Ride London '100 miler'. Significantly, whilst I have undertaken lots of cycling I have never ridden 100 miles in one day. However, I have done 90 miles on a leg of a London-Paris cycle. Moreover, until recently, I was Chairman of Berkhamsted Cycling Club (BCC) and am a regular club cyclist. Hence, i am hoping that the probability of success is fairly high, although I am not taking things for granted! I will be paying personally for my entry (which was secured via a BCC ballot) and my logistics. Hence, all money raised will go straight to the Ulysses Trust
