About

Last year, I took part in my first ever bicycle race. Not afraid of going in at the deep end, this was the 4000 km Transcontinental Race. After a few things went wrong, this ride culminated in a ridiculous 855-km nonstop push from Romania to Greece, in 46-degree heat, that I dubbed "Operation Kickass". The name was clearly an attempt to provide an air of drama to what was otherwise a really desperate move. https://www.strava.com/activities/1127754304

Operation Kickass aside, I did much better in the Transcontinental than I thought I would. So this year am taking on another super-long-distance race. And now I know I can compete over these distances, I'm going to be racing it quite seriously.

Event details

The North Cape 4000 Race

The North Cape 4000 is a 4300 km race from Lake Garda in Italy, over the Alps and then all the way up to the very top tip of Norway. I instantly fell for this race because of the idea that we will ride ever northwards, the days getting longer and longer, until we quite literally run out of Europe.

Last year, I raised money for road safety charities and, after the amazing support people offered, am going to do the same again. This year, I am focusing exclusively on the excellent charity RoadPeace, who work so effectively for the victims of road violence.
