Music Group Appeal
We are fundraising to continue the amazing Music Group workshop. This project was developed by one of our Street Alternative Volunteers, Grace Dale, who studied Music in the Community and was inspired after visiting the Choir With No Name in London.
At Music Group sessions, vulnerable homeless individuals come together with staff and volunteers to find joy and fun in group singing, learn how to harmonize, and express themselves through music without judgement. Songs are chosen by service users and has included songs by the Beatles, the Eagles and Bon Jovi, among many more.
Music Group Workshops
Staff and volunteers have been blown away with the significant lift in self-esteem, energy and mood in service users accessing the Music Group. Service user feedback includes feeling joyous, energised, hopeful, awesome and uplifted. This initiative has shown us that community singing has tremendous physical and mental health benefits, and also helps to break down social barriers. It has been a wonderful way to bring everyone together. In between workshops it is still talked about constantly, and we even catch service users and volunteers singing together in the dining-room and on the stairwells! We are fundraising to cover the cost of future 9-week blocks of Music Group workshops facilitated by Grace Dale, working alongside our volunteer-led Street Alternatives service. We cannot plan future workshops until we reach fundraising targets, but hope that in 2017 we can #keepsinging !
Thank you for your support.
