Royal Parks London Half Marathon
Most people think I’m pretty strong & have taken the past couple of years in my stride. But the truth is, after nearly losing Gwen again last winter & spending weeks & months at home or in hospital with Gwen, only seeing doctors, therapists or nurses - I ran out of ‘manning up power’. All the emotional trauma from the past 3 years hit me like a bus.
Three years earlier my daughter had a very rocky start to life after my waters went at 17 wks & then sepsis delivery at 26wks. Despite terrible odds & being thrown all sorts of medical curve balls, she never gives up & is my little warrior. Providing support throughout has been Bliss, who provide support to babies up & down the country.
3 years later I hit rock bottom & Homestart came to the rescue quite literally. Whether it was finally being able to visit my own doctor, helping me care for Gwen so I could leave the house on my own to walk the dog, or simply giving me someone to talk to about everything. Home-start are not that well known but provide support nationwide for families with young children, where mum may be suffering from anxiety, post natal depression or coming to terms with life changing conditions in their children.
Half Marathon Challenge
Originally I was set to run Snowdon as well as the Royal Parks but after finding out 2 weeks ago that I have breast cancer - & that its spread further than we thought - I have had to withdraw from Snowdon. I have however been given the ok from the Oncologist to still run the Royal Parks Half (as long as I don't go for a PB!). I'm still running as I made a commitment to the Charities & the only reason I found the cancer is because of all the running training I was doing. Royal Parks on Sunday the 14th will be my last proper run in a while as I go in for surgery on the 16th & start the rest of treatment after that.
