Michelle Morris Project Riandu 2016
I first heard about this project from my friend, David, who has been a part of it since the beginning. Working for Tutor Doctor, who has such a strong core belief that everyone can learn, has given me the passion to become involved with Project Riandu and helping to make a difference.
The progress on the school so far has been incredible and I feel privileged to be going out there this summer to continue the construction of the buildings. The money you donate will go directly to the construction costs.
Not only is this community based project creating a safe and welcoming place for deaf children, but by integrating with the deaf community is also helping change perceptions of deafness in Kenya.
Thank you for your support!

Project Riandu 2016
Project Riandu aims to combat the lack of secondary school education for deaf people in Kenya. Invited by Mbeere Mothers Union, we are supporting construction of a school for 200 deaf teenagers in eastern Kenya and we'd love your help! In Kenya there are an estimated 300,000 deaf children and teenagers. While at primary level there are 72 schools, at secondary there were only 5, leaving deaf people lacking in education and communication skills. This year they're building a dining hall, staff houses and completing a dormitory. We'll be doing sponsored challenges, arranging fun events, holding stalls at conferences and festivals all to raise awareness and finances to facilitate real change to the lives and opportunities of deaf people in Kenya. This is the last volunteer trip but not the end of the project. The Project Riandu community will continue fundraising: gradually decreasing as the local capacity to sustainably support the project grows.
