Martha cycles really far

Martha Kenyon
I'm cycling 520km from Sofia to Thessaloniki to raise funds for the charity Khora refugee centre in Athens
About
This August I will be joining the aptly-named Thighs of Steel for a sponsored cycle of 520km over 5 days with an ascent of 7250m from Sofia, up and over the mountain ranges of Bulgaria, and then down into the heat of Thessaloniki in Greece. As a commuter cyclist used to pottering around flat London on my single-speed, this is going to be a huge challenge!
I'm not just doing this for the sunburn, thigh burn, and potential to be chased by bears... it is in aid of Khora community centre in Athens. Khora is a humanitarian co-operative foundation providing services such as food, clothing, legal advice, language classes and even nappies for refugees forced from their homes by war, poverty and climate change.
The previous years’ rides have raised enough money to pay for the rent and electricity of the centre for an entire year. That is the real, tangible impact your donation can have.
Any donations no matter how large or small would be greatly appreciated! I cover my own costs and Khora is a small grassroots operation, so all money raised goes directly to supporting the people most in need.
Many thanks for your support! Wish me luck, I'm going to need it...

Event details

London to Athens 2018
A group of not-so-serious cyclists have set themselves the serious challenge of cycling between London and Athens. The ride is a relay-style challenge, with each participant taking on a week or two of the overall trip.
We are fundraising for Khora; a grassroots, proactive association running a community centre in Athens. Their centre provides basic and human needs for people without freedom of movement. This includes free nutritious food, clothing, education, access to information and a safe space to build relationships and relax.
Equally important to what they offer, is how they offer it. Khora is run by volunteers from all over the world. Its team includes members of the local Greek community, the refugee community and other international volunteers too. It prioritises dignity and respect in every service it provides.
The £60,000 we are aiming to raise will pay for the rent for their community centre for an entire year. The running costs of a project are typically the hardest to find funding for, so it of particular importance to be able to provide this for Khora, to secure a stable future for the project. All fund-raised money goes to Khora, and none on the ride.
