I'm a digital communications professional, mountaineer and adventure travel blogger, and alternate my lifestyle between the Central London rat-race, and the easier paced lifestyle of high altitude mountaineering expeditions.

My visits to Nepal over the years and the friendships I have made there led me to take up a voluntary position as a trustee of CHANCE, a charity providing educational support to young people in Nepal. I am very happy to be raising money for them in my challenge to climb Lhotse.

South Peak - my attempt on Lhotse

Lhotse is the 4th highest mountain in the world and rises up on the opposite side of the South Col from Everest. It was first climbed by a Swiss team in 1956 and its standard route is the same as Everest's to around 7500m. To reach it I will be trekking through the Khumbu region of Nepal to Everest Base Camp, weaving through the fabled Khumbu Icefall into the Western Cwm (also known as the Valley of Silence) and taking a direct(ish) line up the Lhotse Face to its summit.

It's a wee bit steeper than Everest, but I'm looking forward to the whole Everest south side experience, having climbed it from the north side two years ago. I have paid for my expedition myself through my own savings, and any money raised here in sponsorship will go directly to helping young people in the poor but beautiful country of Nepal have a better CHANCE in life.

Your deeply moving accounts of the Sherpa tragedy have given us all a much better insight into the complex realities of the situation out there that all the simplistic media accounts put together. Lhotse will always be there for another attempt.

I support another charity in Nepal, and felt sufficiently moved by your account of your challenging experience to want to donate to your charity too. Good luck for the future.
