London Marathon for Caring Cancer Trust
My name is Mark Bennett I’m 44 years old. I served in the Armed Forces for 25 years and I’ve done events for many charities in the past but none as close to many people’s hearts as this one. I am taking on another challenge after securing a ballot place in the famous London Marathon and what better charity to run for than the Caring Cancer Trust (CCT). I have known close friends and family who have lost the battle to cancer and I am wanting to make a little difference to those suffering with Cancer. CCT provides escorted Healing Holidays of adventure for children recovering from cancer. They help them regain their self confidence and passion for life after the trauma and suffering caused by their illness. A family friend and local girl ‘Maisie Norton’ lost her battle with cancer in October 2015 at just 17 years old. The CCT allowed Maisie to attend holidays like this and she was also a Mentor for younger kids on trips provided by CCT. By running the gruelling 26 miles in Maisie’s memory I am hoping to raise enough money to send at least one child with cancer on one of these holidays giving them the experience of a lifetime and the much needed help they deserve.
The Virgin London Marathon 2019
The London Marathon is on the 28 April 2019. With just under 15 weeks to go left to train for the gruelling 26 miles. I will be running along with 1000’s of other runners so the atmosphere for both spectators and competitors will be amazing and will play a big part in the whole experience. It starts in Blackheath and finishes at the Mall taking in all the landmarks of London. What makes this years Marathon more poignant is that I will be running on the Sunday 28 April which is also the same day as Maisie’s memorial football match which we have attended every year. Unfortunately this year my partner Tracey Hodge and family will be missing it but will all still be there in mind.
