David Mercer, CEO of LMAX Exchange, the first regulated MTF for global
FX, is excited to be a part of this unique challenge, and the incredible
opportunity of stretching himself both physically and mentally. Wooden
Spoon is David’s preferred charity, as it helps make a real difference
to the lives of young people and he is committed to raising significant
funds for Wooden Spoon, he has also committed LMAX Exchange to support
the challenge and charity, as a lead sponsor. A team player from his
amateur rugby days and throughout his business career, he’s sure his
leadership ability will help motivate the team if need be.
Arctic Rugby Challenge2015
In April 2015, 11 brave men trekked over 60 miles to the Magnetic North Pole, in order to set a Guinness World Record and play the most northerly game of rugby in history. This pioneering expedition aims to raise £300,000 for Wooden Spoon, the children’s charity of rugby, to support disabled and disadvantaged children across the UK and Ireland.
The teams were led by former Rugby Union Internationals, Tim Stimpson (England and Leicester Tigers) and Ollie Phillips (England 7s and Gloucester winger). Guinness World Records™ have verified this epic achievement, and we are very proud to announce Wooden Spoon’s Arctic Rugby Challenge team has officially set a brand new Guinness World Record!
